S5 Plus is not a separate Thatcham certification category. It is a widely used and recognised trade term for an S5 certified tracker that has remote immobilisation added on top. The Thatcham categories are S7 and S5, the S5 Plus designation means you are getting a fully certified Thatcham S5 product with the additional capability of remote engine immobilisation.
Why does this matter? Because it tells you exactly what you are getting and what your insurer is certifying. Your installation certificate will confirm Thatcham S5 certification. The remote immobilisation is the additional layer that elevates that S5 system to what the trade calls S5 Plus.
Being clear about this is not a weakness in the product, it is accurate. And accuracy is what H-Track builds its reputation on.
What remote immobilisation adds is this: in a confirmed theft where your vehicle has been stopped, whether by traffic, police or the driver stopping voluntarily, the monitoring centre can prevent the engine from restarting. Important note on compatibility: Remote immobilisation is not currently suitable for hybrid or electric vehicles. If your vehicle is hybrid or electric H-Track will advise on the appropriate alternative before you book, the S5 without immobilisation remains a fully certified and highly effective solution for these vehicles.

Your insurer has specifically required S5 Plus or remote immobilisation capability
Some insurers, particularly for prestige, performance and high-value vehicles, specify remote immobilisation as a condition of cover. If your policy schedule includes this requirement the S5 Plus is the correct solution and H-Track will fit it and certificate it accordingly.
Your vehicle is a prestige or performance car
Prestige vehicles attract organised professional attention, not opportunist theft. The methods used target multiple vehicles over multiple nights with sophisticated equipment. For these vehicles H-Track’s recommendation is that the S5 Plus provides the most complete available protection precisely because it does not just track the theft but intervenes in it.
Your vehicle is a high value 4×4 or SUV
Range Rovers, Land Rovers, high spec Volkswagen and BMW SUVs are among the most consistently targeted vehicles in the UK. H-Track’s recommendation for any of these is the S5 Plus as a minimum, the combination of Automatic Driver Recognition and remote immobilisation addresses the specific methods used to steal these vehicles.

What Happens When Your S5 Plus Tracker Detects Unauthorised Movement
Not Just Tracking a Theft
Physically Stopping It.
Understanding how remote immobilisation actually operates in a real theft scenario removes any mystery and makes the value of the S5 Plus immediately clear.
Stage 1 – Automatic Driver Recognition triggers
Your vehicle moves without your ADR tag present. The monitoring centre is alerted within seconds — before the vehicle has left your street in most cases.
Stage 2 – Monitoring centre contacts you
The control room attempts to contact you immediately to confirm whether a theft is in progress or whether this is an authorised movement without your tag.
Stage 3 – Theft confirmed, police notified
If a theft is confirmed the monitoring centre contacts UK police and provides live GPS location data to direct officers to the vehicle.
Stage 4 – Remote immobilisation deployed
Once police authorisation is given and the vehicle has stopped, whether at traffic lights, a junction or a destination, the monitoring centre sends the immobilisation command. The engine will not restart. The vehicle stays where it is until police arrive.
This sequence does not guarantee recovery in every scenario but it represents the most complete response chain an installed tracker can provide. H-Track’s view is that for the vehicles that warrant this level of protection there is no better available option.

Is S5 Plus a separate Thatcham category?
No, and being accurate about this matters. S5 Plus is a trade term not a distinct Thatcham certification. Thatcham certifies products to S5 and S7 standards. An S5 Plus product is a Thatcham certified S5 tracker with remote immobilisation added. Your installation certificate will confirm Thatcham S5 certification. The immobilisation is an additional capability on top of that certified standard.
Who does H-Track recommend the S5 Plus for?
H-Track recommends the S5 Plus for prestige and performance vehicles, high value 4x4s and SUVs, any vehicle where the insurer has specifically required remote immobilisation capability, and any vehicle that has previously been targeted by theft. For standard value vehicles where the insurer has not specified immobilisation the S5 or S7 is typically the more proportionate recommendation.
Can an S5 Plus tracker be fitted to a hybrid or electric vehicle?
Remote immobilisation is not currently suitable for hybrid or electric vehicles. If your vehicle falls into either category H-Track will recommend the S5 which retains full Thatcham S5 certification and Automatic Driver Recognition without the immobilisation component. This remains a highly effective and fully certified level of protection.
Will an S5 Plus tracker satisfy my insurer's requirement?
Yes, provided your insurer has specified S5 or S5 with immobilisation. Your installation certificate confirms Thatcham S5 certification and H-Track as a TASSA registered installer ensures the certificate is valid. If your insurer has specified a specific product or additional requirement we will confirm compatibility before installation.
How is the S5 Plus different from a Ghost 2 immobiliser?
They are complementary rather than alternative products. The S5 Plus combines a Thatcham certified tracker with remote immobilisation deployed by the monitoring centre in a confirmed theft. The Ghost 2 immobiliser prevents engine start at the vehicle level using a PIN sequence, it does not require monitoring centre involvement. Many clients with high-value vehicles choose both for layered protection. H-Track install and support both and will advise on the right combination for your specific situation.
How long does S5 Plus installation take?
S5 Plus tracker installation typically takes two to three hours. It is a more involved installation than an S7 or standard S5 due to the immobilisation integration. H-Track take the time to do this correctly, we do not rush a job of this technical complexity. We come to your home or workplace across all seven of our coverage regions.
